Deposits & Bonds
The Camino Network employs two concepts, known as deposits and bonds, which are securities utilized for various purposes, including deposit rewards, validator bonds, and DAO proposals.
Deposits
Deposits in Camino Network provide an opportunity for users to earn rewards for their CAM tokens. By depositing their tokens on the blockchain for a certain period of time, users can earn rewards in return. This mechanism is similar to earning interest on savings accounts in traditional banking systems.
This mechanism helps Camino Network to stablize CAM token's value.
The distinction from Delegation on other PoS Blockchains
The deposit feature of the Camino Network differs from delegation on other PoS blockchains, such as Avalanche. In delegation, users are required to find a trustworthy validator on the network to which they can delegate their tokens for staking. This introduces an additional burden and complicates the process for users, as they must locate a validator with good uptime.
Other blockchains require the delegation mechanism to secure their networks, but Camino Network uses a unique consensus mechanism called Proof of Stake and Authority, which eliminates the need for a delegation mechanism. Every Camino validator is known, having been verified through KYC or KYB, and bonds a fixed amount of CAM tokens. This enables Camino Network to provide a simple deposit functionality to its users.
With Camino's deposits, users can simply deposit their tokens for a certain period of time and earn rewards, without the need to find a trustworthy validator or delegate their tokens.
The Earn section in the Camino Wallet displays the user's deposit earnings rewards.
Bonds
In the Camino Network, bonds are currently utilized for two purposes. The primary use is for bonding by Validators, while the secondary use is bonding for DAO proposals.
Bonding for Validators
Validators need to bond exactly 100,000 CAM tokens to become a validator. These bonded tokens are locked in a bond and stay in that state for the duration of the bond.
This mechanism is similar to other PoS blockchains' staking, but differs because in Camino Network the bonded amount is fixed. Validators can not bond more, or less than 100,000 CAM tokens. Additionally, validators are subject to KYC or KYB verification and are limited to running a single validator node. This creates a fair and democratic field for all members of the network to vote on DAO proposals.
It is important to note that bonded tokens can also be deposited to earn additional rewards.
DAO Proposals
The second use for bonds in Camino Network is for DAO proposals. Users can bond their tokens to a specific proposal, indicating their support for it. This allows for a more decentralized decision-making process and gives community members a direct say in the direction of the network.
It's important to note that only the individual submitting the proposal must bond a specified amount of CAM tokens. On the other hand, voters do not need to bond any tokens, they simply need to be members of the consortium.
This bonding mechanism is used to ensure that the person proposing the proposal is invested in its success and has a stake in the outcome. It also helps prevent spamming or low-quality proposals from being submitted to the DAO, as users have to put up a bond to propose a proposal. Overall, the use of bonds in Camino Network helps to ensure the integrity and security of the network.
Conclusion
Overall, the deposit and bond features in Camino Network provide a simple and secure way for users to earn rewards and participate in the decision-making process of the network. The fixed bond amount and the requirement for validators to be verified create a fair and democratic environment for all members.
It's important to note that tokens that are bonded, whether for validators or DAO proposals, cannot be used for paying transaction fees or exported (cross-chain transfers) to other chains. This is because the tokens are locked and cannot be moved or transferred during the bond period.
